Dia de los Muertos - Day of the Dead
The Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos in Spanish, is a vibrant and colorful celebration that traditionally takes place annually on November 1st and 2nd (our annual celebration will just take place on November 1st).
Originating in Mexico, this holiday is a beautiful tribute to honor and remember loved ones who have passed away. During this time, families create elaborate altars called ofrendas, adorned with marigolds, candles, and pictures of the deceased. It is believed that during this occasion, the spirits of the departed reunite with their families, so offerings of their favorite foods and beverages are placed on the altars as well.
The atmosphere is lively and filled with laughter, music, and dancing as families gather and honor their loved ones.
For this family-friendly celebration, we will build a community Ofrenda together.
To participate in this, please bring in a copy of a printed-out picture of your loved one in advanced so we can have the Ofrenda built.
The movie, Coco, will be projected on the big screen and we will have food available for purchase.
